:iconqitian:, I know this is a day late - it is for you all the same. Happy birthday!

A response, of sorts, to a conversation we had a while back (as I'm sure you remember) - about Arien, Tilion, and their respective vessels - or not. So now here is my interpretation of your initial idea, and I hope you'll like it. Arien, guardian of the sun in Tolkien's Middle-earth.

Too bright were the eyes of Arien for even the Eldar to look on, and leaving Valinor she forsook the form and raiment which like the Valar she had worn there, and she was as a naked flame, terrible in the fullness of her splendor.

(J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion, Of the Sun and Moon and the Hiding of Valinor)

dude, this is FANTASTIC! I love how you made the Sun seem dim/un-flamelike in comparison to Arien! Do you have one of these for Tillion, as well?

It is the middle of a sunny summer day

I am running down the stairs

quickly and excitedly, with my neighbours following me.

We all want to see the Sun

It just fell down in the front yard

I saw it coming down like an overripe cantaloupe,

staining the sky with sticky, succulent golden juices.

There it is,

lying on the ground,

a giant orange, trampling the grass it landed on,

squirting its warm essence all over our bodies.

The neighbourhood dogs are running around,

barking at this strange visitor.

I approach it warily. I touch it.

It is warm and beautiful,

glistening in the mid-noon light.

I remember well the feelings of amazement, incredulity,

inexplicable joy overwhelming me

and the comical expressions of confusion

on the faces

of my neighbours.
